We’re extremely proud of all our members, each member worked extremely hard.  For a small team of 11 to perform so well is rare, especially in Spirit & Sportsmanship, where being large and loud is almost required.

As you may have heard already, DART is advancing to the National Competition this year, along with 7 other teams from our region. All the of the Music City BEST hub winners are advancing to Nationals, so Nashville is very well represented.   The 8 teams and the award(s) they won to advance are as follows:

Merrol Hyde Magnet School: 1st Place Robotics Award

Central Magnet School: 2nd Place Robotics Award and 4th Place BEST Award

DART: 3rd Place Robotics Award and 5th Place BEST Award

Sparkman High School: 4th Place Robotics Award

DARC: 1st Place BEST Award

Oak Mountain High School: 2nd Place BEST Award

Wetumpka High School: 3nd Place BEST Award

Central High School: 6th Place BEST Award

Some of the names are similar, so don’t be confused if you think you’re seeing double.

The national competition is being held in Orlando, Florida, and DART needs a lot of support to afford the journey to competition, and we appreciate anything. Thank you!

Thanks to WDKN for inviting us a second time for a follow-up. we had many comments about our last visit, and we enjoyed our time.

Actually that’s only half true (pun intended). We actually received a joint BEST mentor award, split between Ms. Hasley and Mr. Sobota. THis is the first time that two mentors have tied, at least at the Music City Hub.

DART would like to send congratulations to every team, especially to the rookie teams. We hope to see everyone back next year.

Also a special congratulation to Central Magnet School and Merroll Hyde Magnet School, who will be traveling to the regional competition along with us. We wish you good luck and hope your teams do well at Auburn University.

And last but most certainly not least, a very special thank you and round of applause to all our judges and referees, especially to Mr. Colletti, Dr. Nordstrom, and Mr. Petit, thank you for putting up with all our questions and requests.  Without all of you there would be no competition, so thank you.

I hope you’ve enjoyed hearing about DART and BEST this year, but it isn’t over yet. DART will be traveling to regionals soon, and though we don’t ask anyone to travel with us, we certainly hope you’ll cheer us on from afar. Look for a new post with more details soon. DART was honored by receiving many compliments on our robot, which operated extremely well, and was able to accomplish every task. Also, the great paint job helped gain attention.

DART looks forward to the competition on October 23rd, and hopes to earn a spot in the regionals.

We invite anyone to come and cheer for our team and robot, and hope you stop by our booth and ask any questions you might have.

This year there are 14 teams competing.  Teams that attend our Music City BEST hub competition are mostly from Middle Tennessee, although some attend from as far away as Illinois and Indiana.  The team with the highest scoring robot will attend regional competition at Auburn University.  The 1st and 2nd place BEST Award winners will also attend.  The BEST award is a combination of the scores of the robot, the exhibit booth, the marketing presentation, the project engineering notebook and spirit/sportsmanship.  Each team’s Exhibit Booth will be set up and you may visit them throughout the day.

The robot schedule for the day is as follows:

8:45 a.m. – Welcome
9:00 a.m. – Practice Rounds
9:30 a.m. – Seeding Rounds, Marketing Presentations, and Team Interviews
1:00 p.m – Break for Lunch
2:30 p.m. – Semi Final and Final Rounds
4:00 p.m. – Awards Ceremony
